Phoenix Heart specialises in handmade solid wood homewares which we burn to achieve our signature finish. This treatment gives a deep, rich colour and a truly beautiful texture. Because the finish is the highlight of our products we keep our designs simple and minimalist. Our homewares pair with neutral tones and other natural textures for a cosy yet contemporary style.
We make sure sustainability is part of everything we do, which is why we start with responsibly sourced (FSC certified) wood. For our products we use soft woods, usually pine or spruce, which we source from a local independent timber merchant. First we carefully select stock pieces with the perfect grain patterns for our techniques. From these we form our products and then carefully burn them to char the surface. When the depth and tone are just right we brush off the excess ash. This exposes the texture and we can then seal the wood to protect the surface and prevent any ash transfer from the finished piece.
Phoenix heart is a small business based in Wales on the border of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Because of our location we use the beauty of our surroundings as a constant source of inspiration. We are influenced by the welsh landscapes which motivate our focus on the luxurious textures and hues that can be derived from the natural treatment of raw materials.
